"Safety First" was our motto on the shoot of Welcome Space Brothers. In this difficult scene where the character of Eddie (Bill Donaghue) dives head first into the Deput Kathy's (Sally Dana) car door window, extensive safety precautions were taken, including the filling of the entire bottom of the car with soft popcorn, and the playing of soothing harp music to smooth the inside of the vehicle. The subsequent pyrotechnic explosion went off without a hitch, and should be an incredible scene in the film, provided that the Office of Occupational Safety and Health returns the footage to us in time for editing.
